There's still time to introduce new artists we think are rather spiffing here, and Finland's Lindon would be one of those. "Eksajoule" is a driftingly backed rhythmic idm treat, with mini-drum-fireworks lit every few seconds and a backing lilt which is truly beautiful. Some more of that more melodic idm that we like so much chez Monotonik? We fear so.

As you may know by now, Andi Horvath, aka Ramone/Mono, passed away very unexpectedly and prematurely in June of 2001. He was a source of the most amazing hiphop jungle tracks and ascii/graffiti art, as well as possessing an amazing spirit, and he's fondly remembered by all of his online and offline friends. So, we're proud to be able to present the second part of our tribute to him, a full CD album he recorded back in 1998, originally for a release on German-based Firehorse Records, though this...

Since we've previously released sparkling retro bleeps from Sweden's Goto80, it was a natural progression, much like 50 Cent and G-Unit, to expand our focus to encompass his whole posse, the Subnatura collective . Thus, we get 'The Sound Of Subnatura', a 5-artist, 5-track EP which shows off the varying style of the Subnatura artists and their 'good vibrations'. So, we start with the quirky electronic breaks of Dorothy's Magic Bag, all contrite but strident on 'Syltpuss', before breaking into...

Something distinctly different, this mp3 release is from the English artist 3818919/w, of which little can be revealed - other than the fact he works in computer games as a graphics artist and is also responsible for the rather cool mp3-cover to this release. This track was done with a cacophony of cantankerous old analogue synths and drum machines and is distinctly influenced by a number of Warp and Rephlex artists. But we like to think the beguiling melodies and intriguing percussion bring a...

Having previously churned up our oldskool .MOD treats into a swirly mix for us with his 'Mono BPM' set, and also 'possibly' behind some naughty bootleg Monotonik compilations floating around file-sharing servers worldwide, US-based Luminfire sent us this languidly individualistic original composition. It made us go 'oo'. So we released it. Neat. But more with the specifics, guv'nor? Well, "Bananadittydub" is a vibraphone-encrusted gem of a track which strangely recalls DJ Shadow in...

Vae, most excellent proprietor of the net.label Kahvi, kindly gives us his 2nd release on Monotonik, and this one's a treat - melodically beautiful, and complete with ambient duck.qwak action, the key element of any classic song in this day and age. So whether it be the nifty serene organ loop or the shuffle-crack percussion which really give you the chills on this particular number, Vae's friend (the fowl who's silver, of course!) provides a touching, emotion-filled experience for all of us....

A return visit to Monotonik from New Zealand-based artist Aquaboogie, and again his very distinctive, almost dreamily spaced-out electronics surface from the Antipodean haze. First up, "Little Star" brings a kinda Isan-ish calm and simplicity to an ambient haze of a track, with angelic, metallic, computer-generated lullaby over the top of some delightfully re-focusing strings. Then, "Insecure Robot" brings another Adams-ian piece of whimsy to life, whether intentionally or...

We're delighted to showcase the first Monotonik EP fromAmerican artist Matt Centonze, under his Blisaed moniker.Matt's released on smaller netlabels and his own site as Echion and Mistrial before, but the "As Time Passes EP" drifts through some beautifully produced indie electronic moods, alternately sophisticated and restful. First off, it's "Megan's Guitar", with some serene spokenword and strummed guitar melding wonderfully, before "Far From Home" works up the...

So, we continue with the Mono211 sublabel tradition of releasing 'good, but unclassifiable' material that takes both breaks and chillout influences on-board. And this time, we were delighted to get "Aze", an unexpected submission from the mysterious Izmar , and a whole album of delightfully groovy, beautifully programmed jazzy techno/chillout. Right from the slow build of "Aze-01", it's clear that there's something different going on here, with possible comparisons to the...

After a longish period of hibernation, Dice, aka Prob., the Finnish breaks-guru who's a longtime Dharma collaborator and has previous and forthcoming 12" releases on Audio Couture, Straight Up Breakbeat and Formation, comes up with a gem of a mini-EP for Monotonik in his more laidback Prob. guise. First up is the title track, "Emotion", a wonderfully horizontally-inclined d+b-flecked track, reminiscent of some of the output on Certificate 18, perhaps - all insistent snares and...

Long-awaited and finally sorted, this 4-track EP is from US artist Proem, previously known for his excellent "Burn Plate No.1" album on Hydrant and supa compilation appearances on Toytronic and Kracfive. Continuing our interest in where the crunchy retro of videogame music meets the now and future of life away from your Nintendo, the mysterious AY88 (no name, no packdrill) delves deep into the innards of his primitive sound creation devices, and comes up with the exquisite tangent of "Console-Related Depression". Thus, whilst the first part of the EP bounces solid analog bass with metronome-style backing and gorgeously smooth arpegiating to infinity in an almost .SID style, the second...

This third-party compilation is one of three put together by an unknown person and spread on P2P networks, and acts as a 'best of' for Monotonik. We decided it has excellent track choice (check out early tracks from Whiskas and Jiva in particular), plus a number of tracks only normally available in .MOD form as .MP3s, so we've made it an official release and added it to our catalog - the Internet and freely distributed music comes up with cool ideas like this if you're lucky. The first EP release online from Monotonik, and that quirky English idm-ster, 3818919/w, comes up trumps with some beautiful tracks influenced by everything from Bola through Bochum Welt to Plone. Some of the releasers on Monotonik are more mysterious than others. But we quite enjoy it when the more shadowy ones turn up, slip us a gorgeous piece of music, and then slink away into the ether again. All we know about Gschmidt is that he might be named after a mathematic process, his previous ' Nibiru Coming ' release precis-ed rogue planet paranoia excellently, and this new 'Time Tolled EP' is a wonderful journey through some kind of wilfully odd, strangely beautiful soundscape. An mp3 single taken from the limited-edition CD by Lackluster (aka Distance), this track finds him in typically drifting, understated, beautifully pin-sharp ambient form. Chords steal quietly over the top of quietly pulsating drums and weirdly insistent bass, like the slow conquering tides.. perfectly balanced, electronics practically sound natural when they're like this. Compare and contrast to any other mellow ambient idm you like, in the end nobody sounds quite like Lackluster (but, of...

Following the first Monotonik release from Swedish idm-ish artist Stefan Ternemar, aka ST, in 2003, we waited around a little, and suddenly, another EP popped up. Interestingly, although the first 'Emotions In A Box' release was very much epic electronic, almost Chris Huelsbeck-ian synthwork, everyone evolves, and thanks to guest spots from a fellow Swedish Monotonik artist (check the ID3 tags for a hint), and some new influences, the 'I'll Meet You There EP' keeps the epic melodies, but slides...

Another day, another m211 mp3 release, and this time it's the mp3 debut of that funk soul brother Bay Tremore. He hits us with one of his intriguingly original drum and bass tracks - sorta somewhere towards the techstep that so dominates d+b nowadays but then shying away towards the melodic under-ratedness of artists such as Arcon2 or even Springheel Jack. But there's lots of hidden subtlety, both in rhythm and texture, which emerges the more you listen to it. somewhere towards the Bristol d+b sound but tending to echo a less filtered Optical-styled sound, this is the sound of jungle getting lean, mean, and moody just in time for the new millenium.

This 3-track miniaturised release from the genius of Vim! has been floating around for a few months now, along with a mass of other material he's accumulated since the release of his "Linden: Home Of The Hits" album for Surgery Records. In some ways, this is closer to the couple of tunes Keith has released as Vom, with perfectly ambient sketches and much influence from artists such as Windy and Carl. But where "00" lays on the Harold Budd-esque carefully placed mess of keys...

Fresh from his appearance remixing Lackluster for the DeFocus-released "R U Oho?" 12" (FOC354), the Australian artist Sense, who's been around the music-scene a long time, and is finally getting more well-deserved recognition (he's played supporting Aphex Twin on his live Oz jaunts, and even now is being courted by Jeff Mills for his new label..) "Bubble Blower" is a wonderfully serene piece of ambient techno, calmly rippling through your speakers (or, indeed,...

For some reason, we sat on the demos Phasmid sent us for a few months. Then we listened again and smacked ourselves upside the head for not putting out the US idm-er's material, like, _immediately_. Why? It's the missing link Monotonik may have been needing, a bridge between laid-back traditional melodics and something a little more unconventional and new. So, welcome to Phasmid's skewed world-view courtesy of "Heroine Of Goat Bells", all Plone-ish weird instruments and out-there...

Much more of a 'fun' release than anything else, this great piece of electro from Helsinki guys Prob+Mirko was meant to compete in the mp3 competition at Assembly 99, the hackerdemo party held a couple of weeks back. But in the end it was encoded at the wrong rate and got disqualified, so we get the benefit of the damn catchy vocoded lyrics and oldskool robotikvoices (yes, it's all their own work, not samples..) for the first time on m211. 'We are here to make you move, so come on people - rock...

Thug (aka Tim Koch, aka Serkul), has been getting some pretty nice press recently for his debut CD "Isolated Rhythm Chock" on the Aural Industries label outta Australia. And we're lucky enough to be able to release "Obatem By Night", an exclusive track from him, not on the album and only available on mp3 from us.Listen to the track and you'll find alternately beautiful fuzz and extremely concentrated melodies, reminiscent perhaps of Black Dog at their most melancholic. The...

The return of Brighton, UK-based composer, Idmonster, to Monotonik is always an auspicious event. Former member of Butterfly Child and now a TV documentary composer, his side projects under the Pendle and Idmonster monikers are nothing short of gorgeous. In this case, Idmonster takes a single vocal line from Stina Nordenstam's contribution to, of all things, the "Romeo And Juliet" soundtrack, and re-orchestrates a sublime idm-house trip over the top, complete with what sounds like a...

Just to mix things up a bit, and to prove that Mono211 itself isn't entirely dead in its guise as our breaks/freestylin' sublabel, we're proud to present another track from the recently elusive DJ Hoffman. He's still hiding out in the South-West of England and providing us with dangerously good, dangerously unclassifiable breakbeat-ish tunes which help us hark back to the classic, more beat-leaden days of Mono .MODs which he was a big part of under his Dreamfish pseudonym :)This time round,...

After being vaguely dormant for some time, Mono211,the sister, much more hiphop-influenced breakz+beatslabel to Monotonik, returns, with this rather cutetune from Helsinki, Finland native Substance. Substance (who also releases on Monotonik as Kuu),has crafted a smartly oldskool track from an acidbassline, loping drums, and some lovely scratchyhits and vocal samples. Put the needle on the recordand check it, s'il vous plait..

The ever-fertile Australian electronic scene has spawned another gem, this time the offspring of an earlier Monotonik releaser, in the duo Toby1, comprising Ruth Wilson (vocals/instruments) and Duann Scott (composer/producer/instruments). Duann put out an earlier Monotonik release under his real name, and also released a warmly-received album on Surgery as part of Modula, and Ruth was formerly with cult Aussie band Masongreystrange. Anyhow, the duo have been getting significant buzz down under,...

After his first release as Pendle on our sister label, Mono211, the UK-based former Butterfly Child bandmember and now TV/film/advert soundtracker returns on Monotonik via his Idmonster pseudonym (id? idm? definitely monstrous!) And it's not just a slight return, either. "The Force May Be With You" is a truly divine track, starting in a sea of disembodied voice fragments and cosmic chord co-location, before adding layer on layer of pastoral strings, theremin (?), and jittering that...

We're proud to present the first Monotonik release from Australian artist Sense for almost 2 years (where does time go?), and since his last release with us, his Neo-Ouija album, "A View From A Vulnerable Place", has come out to not insignificant acclaim. Add to that a split 12" with Xhale on Civik, a couple of very neat EPs on Aural Industries, and forthcoming material on Enough Records and Merck, and we can see he's pleasantly indisposed in terms of releasing material....

We're proud to feature the debut release from Kaamos, the new artist name for the Finnish musician formerly known as Phonex. Under that moniker, he released some beautiful tracks on a split 10" with Sense for Lee Metamatics' Neo-Ouija Records, plus appearances on classy compilations for Merck, Suojain, and Neo-Ouija. However, he's been away for a while, revitalising and recuperating, and "Agony" is a gorgeous return to form for his new moniker, showcasing scatterbeat drums,...

Another of those musicians whose work we've known for a long time, and now finally have a chance to put out, Australia's Epoq has been around ever since his contribution to the Surgery's excellent "Initial Release" compilation a year or two back. And now, with net.releases from online labels like Kahvi, Quanta, and Corewatch, and his debut "Scintilla" CD just released, also on Surgery, we're proud to present the lead-off track from that album, "Simpel". So, what to...

We return with a beautifully produced track from Ramone and his German studio partner, Trigger (who has recently been responsible for remixing Jeru Tha Damaja's "Ya Playing Yaself" for DMC Records, amongst other things.) This time it's a chill-out track that was briefly considered for the credits music on the Playstation title Mono211 have done the soundtrack for. But thankfully for you guys, it's now a m211 mp3 release, and you get to hear the distinctive blunted Ramone style given a...

Continuing on the Mono211 (breaks+eclectic) side-label odyssey, we come across French hiphop instru-mentalist Willbe (last seen as one of the winners of the Laurent Garnier remix competition, getting his mix pressed up onto limited vinyl by F Communications!), who's kindly slung us this scratchadelic tribute to Mono211, who are indeed back, back, back. So, with the help of super-scratcher Sear, this headnodder loops up pianos, rock-solid beats, and strings with super nimble scratching skills...

Having previously released for Monotonik under his famed demo-scene pseudonym, Radix, we're delighted to present a new track by this Swedish idm.bot under his new pseudo, Mosaik. And with the idm 'scene' getting plenty of input from ex-demo-sceners (BStates@Warp, Lackluster/TimKoch/Esem@DeFocus, you know the score), here's another talented scene-ster who should really be getting lotsa attention about.. now. Mosaik's demo-scene work was renowned for its lush, synthesised, melodic nature, and...

We here at Monotonik vehemently enjoy mixing up the brand-new idm goodness with some beeptastic sinewaviness from back in the day. And this sublime selection is the first in a series highlighting the little-known Commodore Amiga chiptune format, AHX , which stands for 'Abyss' Highest Experience', and was a gorgeous effort to resurrect C64-style synthetic tunes later in the Amiga's life. So we thought - who would be the best people to pick the best ever AHX tunes? Why, we went straight to the...

Fresh from pretty much cleaning up in the oldskool competitions at the Assembly '02 demo-party in Helsinki, Finland, in July (well, 3rd in oldskool music, 3rd in oldskool demo, 2nd in oldskool graphics utilising classic machines like the Commodore 64, Vic20, and Gameboy, you get the idea..), the prodigously talented Aleksi 'Heatbeat' Eeben, formerly an Amiga demo-scene legend as part of CNCD, has used his own JohnPlayer 'tracker' for C64 to produce this new opus, over eleven minutes of, well.....

This 4th album from Ernesto Aeroflot comes from a mysterious fellow who's released on net.label Commie and a host of smaller labels under names/groups such as TranceYlvania, Sky Wide Jazz, Oodi & Elegia, High Grade Multi Purpose Intelligent Terminal (!), and more. This 10-trackalbum showcases his unpredictable but riveting style excellently,as '80s bleep sounds and stuttering electro mix up with distortedunrest, sweeping electronica, and a wholly surprising bonus cut to create something...

This release comes from Bearded Vault System, and that's not a facial-hair-related security device, rather the pseudonymous Bauri of Saundart Recordings, purveyor of enchanting and sometimes wild electronic noises. This particular track is beguiling, almost fluid techno, with spiky melodies drifting in and out of focus, but plenty of blessed minimalism too. Highly recommended.

As a taster for the one-off and assuredly rather special forthcoming album, Monotonik is proud to present the final recordings of UK artist Binary. Formerly signed to Planet Noisebox, and receptor of rave reviews in the NME for the 'awkward gracefulness' of the 'Music Of Sound' 10" and 'Brick Wall Music' album, Binary has now decided to leave the music industry altogether. his final album, 'Binatone', will be released through Monotonik, so everyone can enjoy his pithy blend of...

From quite literally out of nowhere comes this lush, beautiful 'triphop' (although that's probably an over-used phrase) track from the excellent Vinyl Matt. A choice sample (that soundtrack fans may or may not recognise), all underpinned by some gorgeously halfspeed drums and drifty crunchiness, means perfect music for relaxing in the land where time stands still. Hopefully we'll be hearing more from the mysterious Vinyl Matt soon, but in the meantime, enjoy the first fruits of his labour.

A debut of sorts and a comeback in other ways, as a mysterious Finnish artist called (for the purposes of this release) Please Annihilate Oulu gives us two starkly contrasting tracks. To start things off right, "Copyplate" is a truly virtuoso piece of freejazz vs. drill+bass vs. whoknows, and is quite unlike anything out there right now. Don't worship the glitch, worship the crazy itch. On the other hand, "Lissabon", from a couple of years back, is a calmly authoritative...
